Tulips originated in Turkey and Persia, with people wearing the tulips in their turbans.  Tulip means “turban” in Persian.

When I was a little girl,  my first experience with flowers were the tulips which grew at my next door neighbor's house. I picked some for my mother and she made me take it back, because it didn’t belong to us.  I had to apologize for picking the neighbor’s flowers and learned a lesson in respecting other people’s property.

I never lost my attraction for these bright colored flowers. When I was old enough to grow my own, it was a delight to study them one day for a painting I wanted to do. This was a profound experience for me, mesmerized by the awesome design  of God’s creations. I had to stop and ponder all the fine detail and intricate design of putting this flower together.  I could see the math  in it, six petals, six stamens, patterns of the same shaped design on each petal, etc. the reproductive system, everything that makes it a tulip. It was my first time to appreciate the beauty of math (which I hated in school).

I had to stop right then and there and thank God for his awesome beauty and design.  It became a spiritual moment, a time to worship and thank Him for this gift to me.  It was like with each flower, God was blowing me a kiss!  I could see His love pouring out through a simple flower.  Everything He designs is backed by and through His love, the most powerful force in the universe.

Today I decided to look up the meaning of tulips and wouldn’t you know it?  It means perfect love with the red tulip meaning true love.  While the world seeks love in all the wrong places, God's love is all around us, if we just stop long enough to see it.
