  • Some of my paintings were on display at 50 North and a lady asked if I gave lessons. She wanted to learn colored pencil techniques, so I made this drawing of a red cardinal as a sample. Christmas was coming soon, so I thought it would make a good Christmas card.

The Northern Cardinal is a territorial songbird that mates for life. It’s the state bird of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. It stays year around to defend its territory which is about 4 acres.

Psalm 108:1 Our God, I am faithful to you with all my heart, and you can trust me. I will sing and play music for you with all that I am.

Oh that we were as faithful as the Cardinals. With all the broken promises, families torn apart, children without both parents, we could learn from the faithful Cardinal.  No wonder they are songbirds. They have something to sing about.

None of us have lived perfect lives. Even when we are not faithful, God is. He forgives anyone who repents to him. His mercy is new every morning. Even in the winters of life, we can still have a song to sing because God is faithful.

Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

Psalm 59:16 But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.

Psalm 42:8 The LORD will send his faithful love by day; his song will be with me in the night--a prayer to the God of my life.
