I began this painting by gathering pictures of different butterflies and studying them.  Some of the butterflies in the painting come from my imagination and others are real. I decided to use a dark background to make the butterflies stand out more.  Iridescent paints were used to make the wings more vibrant. I began this painting just because I like butterflies, but when it came time to name it, I saw it from a more spiritual nature.

We all are born into a dark, sinful world, coming from different pasts, races, cultures and yet we are all beautiful and precious in our uniqueness. Like the butterfly, we go through different stages of life, but our old nature must go, before we can emerge to be what we were created to be, beautiful sons and daughters in the kingdom of God. When Nicodemus asked Jesus what he must do to go to heaven, Jesus said “…except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3 Nicodemus was a top Jewish religious leader, yet he didn’t understand what Jesus was talking about. Jesus was talking about changing from the inside out, writing the law on the heart cleansed by the blood of Jesus.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek (gentile): for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus Christ) shall be saved.

Galatians 5:13 For ye have been called to liberty, brethren; only do not turn liberty into an opportunity to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
